The atmosphere and vibe were exhilarating. This busy street in
Soweto comes alive with street performers and hawkers. The locals made us feel
welcome and the overall vibe was fun and happy.
Vilakazi Street is named after Dr Benedict Wallet Vilakazi, a
distinguished writer and educator who wrote the first poetry book published in
Zulu.
Vilakazi Street is also home to the late former President,
Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who still resides there. We could understand
why Vilakazi Street was the most visited street in Soweto. This is the only
street in the world that can boast having had two Nobel Laureates as residents.
The atmosphere of local culture and random entertainment is something
worth experiencing. We loved it!
