I recently visited the smallest church in Van Reenen, South
Africa. The church is situated halfway between Durban and
Johannesburg. Llandaff Oratory was built as a memorial to Llandaff
Matthews who rescued 8 miners in a mining accident at Burnside Colliery near
Glencoe in 1925. The little church only has eight seats, one for each of the
men who died; symbolic and deeply resonant.
