Experience a throwback to a bygone era with Umgeni Steam Railway

It was clear this old steam train was ready to welcome us and take us on a journey back in time. With a loud whistle the old steam train set off with all the smells and sounds of a past.
It looked like a scene straight out of a classic movie. I must say I have always been fascinated by the old-world charm of former years, wondering what it would have been like living in those days.    As we travelled through the Valley of a Thousand Hills we realised it is not just an experience about the past but a journey with spectacular views.
After an hour of viewing the most majestic scenery we arrived at Inchanga were we had time to eat, shop at the stalls, visit the small railway museum and see the small model railway exhibition.

This was truly a memorable day.

An experience which will never be forgotten.

Visit Thompson’s Bay Beach in Ballito (KZN)

Thompson’s Bay is arguably the most beautiful swimming beach in Ballito. The tidal pool and ‘hole in the wall’ make this spot special. We walked from Thompson’s Bay to Willard Beach to explore the coves and the surrounding area. We also did some snorkelling in the big tidal pool. This is a beach that you must include on your South Africa Bucket List. It is truly special.

Register to Become an Organ Donor

I decided to become an Organ Donor. Knowing that you can save a life after death is a heartwarming feeling. Yes, it can be hard to think about what's going to happen to your body after you die, let alone donating your organs. But being an organ donor is a generous and valuable decision. Organ and tissue donation is a simple choice that will cost you nothing but a few minutes of your time to register.

Registering as a donor today!

You can register as an organ donor by:
Once you’ve been successfully registered, the Organ Donor Foundation will send you an organ donor card to carry in your wallet as well as stickers to stick on your ID book and driver’s license to make your intentions known in case of an emergency.

Visit the Voortrekker Monument

The monument should be on your things to do in Gauteng list. It is a beautiful Monument which commemorates the Pioneer history of Southern Africa and the history of the Afrikaner and is situated in a beautiful setting. The Monument was inaugurated in 1949. It was designed by architect Gerard Moerdijk.

The central focus of the monument is The Cenotaph, situated in the centre of the Cenotaph Hall. Through an opening in this dome a ray of sunlight shines at twelve o'clock on 16 December annually, falling onto the centre of the Cenotaph, striking the words 'Ons vir Jou, Suid-Afrika' (Afrikaans for 'We're for you, South Africa').

The Voortrekker Monument is the most visited heritage site of its kind in Gauteng and one of the top ten cultural historical visitor attractions in the country. In addition, the view from the monument’s lookout points is truly spectacular and unquestionably something to experience.

The Voortrekker Monument is located just south of Pretoria in South Africa.

Visit Vilakazi Street in Soweto

The atmosphere and vibe were exhilarating. This busy street in Soweto comes alive with street performers and hawkers. The locals made us feel welcome and the overall vibe was fun and happy.
Vilakazi Street is named after Dr Benedict Wallet Vilakazi, a distinguished writer and educator who wrote the first poetry book published in Zulu.
Vilakazi Street is also home to the late former President, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who still resides there. We could understand why Vilakazi Street was the most visited street in Soweto. This is the only street in the world that can boast having had two Nobel Laureates as residents. The atmosphere of local culture and random entertainment is something worth experiencing. We loved it!

Visit Mandela’s Museum or House

We visited Mandela’s House on Vikalazi Street, in Orlando West. This was the home of our former President Mr. Nelson Mandela. He lived with his first wife (Evelyn Ntoko Mase) and second wife (Winni Madikizela Mandela) in this house. The house is a major tourist attraction and it is filled with history, artworks and photographs of the family. If you are visiting Soweto Township, then this is a must see.

Former South African President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and his family lived here from 1946 into the 1990’s.
